Hand crafted necklace and earring set made of Blue Silver Lined frosted glass seed beads, Kauai West Side Lampwork glass focal bead and Marcia Kmack Glass Beads disc glass beads. The glass beads are handmade and fired by Cheryl Bush on Kauai and Marcia in Colorado. All wire used is Bronze.

15 mm Marcia Kmack Lampwork earring set.

Necklace:

This adjustable necklace is designed to focus on Cheryl Bush’s (Kauai West Side Lampwork) handmade glass lampwork. I used fused 3-ply nylon beading cord which is soft, pliable and yet is strong.  I personally made the S-Hook clasp. The colors in Cheryl’s artwork remind me of why Kauai is called the Garden Island.  The pendant even has bronze colored glass.  I personally structured the wire weaving to support the pendant.

 

Earrings: These earrings enhance the necklace by using Marcia’s 10mm glass beads. Marcia helped me select and match the colors found in Cheryl’s pendant because Cheryl’s artwork is no longer available. I personally structure the wire weaving to enhance to unique disc formation.

 

Care and cleaning:

Hand wash necklace and earrings using household dish soap and water. Lay flat to dry overnight. You can use standard jeweler’s polishing cloth on the earring posts. I do not recommend chemical cleaning because it may discolor the glass beads.

 

About Bead Crochet:

Seed bead crochet is labor intensive, dating back to the early 1820’s. Each tiny bead is touched 3 times to build the spiral rope.

First touch: All beads are strung onto the cord in a predetermined pattern.

Second touch: Crochet the first row of beads, adding one bead with each stitch and determines the diameter of the rope.

Third touch: The subsequent rows are crocheted into each stitch of the previous row adding one new bead while flipping the previous bead to the side.

Although this jewelry did not originate on Kauai (though of course I purchased the Lampwork on Kauai), my heart returns to the Garden Island with fond memories.
