Hand crafted necklace set made of Australian Jasper (also known as
Mookaite Jasper), and Kauai West Side Lampwork glass focal glass beads are
handmade and fired by Cheryl Bush on Kauai.
The colors of this lampwork pendant bead remind me of terrain around
Hanapepe. There are reds, yellow, ivory,
greens, and a bit of purple.
Length: 17"
Materials:
- Australian Jasper
- 24 mm Kauai West Side Lampwork pendant
- 4 mm Kauai West Side Lampwork Rondelle beads.
- Bronze
toggle clasp
Necklace:
This necklace is designed to focus on Cheryl Bush’s (Kauai West Side
Lampwork) handmade glass lampwork. The pendant is removable. I used fused 3-ply
nylon beading cord which is soft, pliable and yet is strong. The colors of this
lampwork pendant bead remind me of grounds around Hanapepe. There are reds, yellow, ivory, greens, and a
bit of purple.
Care and
cleaning:
Hand wash necklace and earrings using household dish soap and water. Lay
flat to dry overnight. I do not
recommend chemical cleaning because it may discolor the natural jasper stones.
About
Bead Crochet:
Seed bead crochet
is labor intensive, dating back to the early 1820’s. Each tiny bead is touched
3 times to build the spiral rope.
First touch: All beads are strung onto the cord in a predetermined pattern.
Second touch: Crochet the first row of beads, adding one bead with
each stitch and determines the diameter of the rope.
Third touch: The subsequent rows are crocheted into
each stitch of the previous row adding one new bead while flipping the previous
bead to the side.
Disclaimer:
This item
is made in the USA, not all the materials used are NOT made in the USA (If you know of a US source for seed beads
and nylon thread please message me as I have not been able to find them). Although
this jewelry did not originate on Kauai (though of course I purchased the
Lampwork on Kauai), my heart returns to the Garden Island with fond memories.
