Hand crafted necklace and earrings made of Preciosa Traditional Czech glass beads. The color is known as Natural Transparent Topaz and the shape is farfalle. Farfalle is also known as butterfly beads. To bring out the blue in the lampwork piece, there are tiny transparent blue Czech seed beads in the swirl pattern.  The pendant (40mm) and earring (5mm) beads were made by Kauai West Side Lampwork.

Necklace:

This necklace is designed to focus on Cheryl Bush’s (Kauai West Side Lampwork) glass focal bead. The focal bead is 40mm long. The topaz glass beads is Czech Farfalle (butterfly or peanut shaped) match a brown in her lampwork beads. I used brown fused 3-ply nylon beading cord which is soft, pliable and yet strong. The colors in Cheryl’s artwork remind me of the ocean and land seen on Kauai. The centerpiece is removable.

 

Earrings:

These earrings enhance the necklace by using Cheryl’s 10mm light blue lampwork beads and bronze findings. 

 

Care and cleaning:

Hand wash necklace and earrings using household dish soap and water. Lay flat to dry overnight. You can use standard jeweler’s polishing cloth on the earring posts. I do not recommend chemical cleaning because it may discolor the glass beads.

 

About Bead Crochet:

Seed bead crochet is labor intensive, dating back to the early 1820’s. Each tiny bead is touched 3 times to build the spiral rope.

First touch: All beads are strung onto the cord in a predetermined pattern.

Second touch: Crochet the first row of beads, adding one bead with each stitch and determines the diameter of the rope.

Third touch: The subsequent rows are crocheted into each stitch of the previous row adding one new bead while flipping the previous bead to the side.
